Mrs. Geyer's Reading List
|Currently Reading: Awkward by Svetlana Chmakova||
Just Finished: All Rise for the Honorable Perry T. Cook by Leslie Connor
Rating: 5 Stars: What a unique concept for a story! I felt the character was typical of a kid his age, I was rooting for him the whole time. This book really made me think about how good friends support one another and how the choices adults make can have a huge impact on their kids.
I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai with Patricia McCormick
Rating: 4 Stars: Malala's is an inspirational story that I hope will encourage kids that they can speak out and make a difference. In addition, it helps us realize how fortunate we are to get the education that we do! Sometimes, though, it was a little slow-moving, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
Turning 15 On the Road to Freedom by Lynda Blackmon Lowery
Rating: 4 Stars: A quick and easy read, this nonfiction book chronicles a young girl's experience marching for African Americans' right to vote. She tells of both the violence and tough moments, but also the influential people and events she experiences. It also has vivid and unique illustrations that help bring the story alive.
Secret Hum of a Daisy by Holczer
Rating: 5 Stars: Loved this! Holczer created a character that was so easy to connect with and that made me root for her the entire time! She was a very believable middle school character in dealing with some tough issues.
|On-Deck: As Brave as You by Jason Reynolds||
